Oh, where was Mel Brooks<\/strong> when we needed him? Or, for that matter, David Sedaris?<\/p>\n

In case you missed it and don\u2019t feel like watching a Carl Paladino YouTube clip<\/a>, here\u2019s one of the choicest lines:<\/p>\n

–\u201cI just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family<\/strong>, and I don\u2019t want them brainwashed<\/strong> into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option<\/strong> \u2014 it isn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last we heard, and please correct us if we\u2019re wrong, Paladino doesn\u2019t believe queers should get married and raise a family. Hmm.<\/p>\n

Last we heard, homosexuality wasn\u2019t an \u201coption.\u201d You are or you\u2019re not. Or maybe you\u2019re somewhere in between, a bisexual, a pansexual or similar. But you don\u2019t sit down and say, \u201cGee, I think I\u2019ll be a homosexual.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hard because we\u2019d just read about a Bronx gang\u2019s torture of a drag queen<\/a> and two teenagers for being gay.<\/p>\n

Hard because Tyler Clementi<\/a>\u00a0had just jumped to his death off the George Washington Bridge after his same-sex date night was broadcast over the Internet by his Rutgers roommate.<\/p>\n

Just hard.<\/p>\n

Then Paladino apologized<\/a>. Public relations people will tell you that apologies, if not handled correctly, can actually be worse than the original sin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

One of Christi\u2019s Upstate New York relatives wrote on Facebook, \u201cYeah, and when he says he’s going to look out for the well-being of all New Yorkers, how can he be believed if [to him] some of that population does not live a valid lifestyle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis guy [will] have the LGBT community sleeping with the fishes<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gurgle, gurgle.<\/p>\n
