{"id":1743,"date":"2010-12-01T07:35:16","date_gmt":"2010-12-01T13:35:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fatalemedia.com\/blog\/?p=1743"},"modified":"2010-11-30T18:11:36","modified_gmt":"2010-12-01T00:11:36","slug":"storme-delarverie-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.fatalemedia.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/storme-delarverie-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Storm\u00e9 DeLarverie News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fatalemedia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Storme-Benefit-at-Henrietta-Hudsons.bmp\"><img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1745\" title=\"Storme Benefit at Henrietta Hudsons\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fatalemedia.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/Storme-Benefit-at-Henrietta-Hudsons.bmp\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>Our friends in <strong>New York<\/strong> keep us up on what\u2019s happening in Chelsea, and especially what\u2019s happening with the Stonewall veteran and our friend Storm\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Best known for her role in the 1969 <strong>Stonewall Riots<\/strong>, Storm\u00e9 worked as a male impersonator and performed with the Jewel Box Revue at the <strong>Apollo Theater<\/strong> and many other legendary venues.<\/p>\n<p>Nan still has the framed photo of Storm\u00e9 in her heyday, which Storm\u00e9 gave her many years ago, on her dresser.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chelseahotelblog.com\/living_with_legends_the_h\/2010\/10\/storme-delarverie.html\">A Toast to Storm\u00e9 DeLarverie<\/a>\u201d offered some good news about Storm\u00e9\u2014she has been moved to a different nursing home in Brooklyn, CABS Nursing Home, where a friend of hers lives. It\u2019s \u201ca much nicer facility,\u201d Ed Hamilton writes in this Chelsea Hotel blog posting. Good!<\/p>\n<p>There was a <strong>benefit for Storm\u00e9<\/strong> that took place the Sunday before Thanksgiving at <strong>Henrietta Hudson\u2019s<\/strong> in the West Village. We remember when Storm\u00e9 was Henrietta Hudson\u2019s bouncer, but more than that, she became our friend when Christi and Nan lived in Chelsea on 20th Street.<\/p>\n<p>Our friend Kate wrote an e-mail update about the afternoon at Henrietta\u2019s:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>The benefit was<\/strong> <strong>a huge success<\/strong>! The place was totally jammed and jumping and spilling onto the street. Storm\u00e9 was there, overlooking the crowd, on a slightly elevated platform, in her wheelchair, receiving well-wishers. I was finally able to get up to her and we had a brief conversation, although it was hard to hear her over the din.\u00a0 There were balloons floating about and lots of elbow-to-elbow dancing to quite loud music.
