\u201cFemale sexuality around the world is targeted because through traumatizing the vagina<\/strong>, you can intimidate women<\/strong> on multiple other levels,\u201d writes Naomi Wolf<\/a>, author of a new book called Vagina: A New Biography<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Wolf\u2019s article, \u201cKate’s breasts, Pussy Riot, virginity tests and our attitude on women’s bodies,\u201d was published this week on CNN.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t 100% agree with Wolf about porn\u2014Porn 24\/7, as she calls it. But we do agree with her in general about women\u2019s bodies and sexuality<\/strong>. She writes:<\/p>\n

In the struggle over sex, these choices are where the struggle lies: Who decides reproductive rights<\/strong>; who decides when and how breasts<\/strong> might be exposed; who decides who can say vagina<\/strong> and where; who decides who is a slut<\/strong>; and who must be punished with hard labor<\/strong> for asserting their right to define their own sexual and artistic identities.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The censorship by Apple iTunes<\/a>, as noted in an article in The Guardian<\/em>, was shocking enough. Adding asterisks so that the word vagina<\/em> reads v****a.<\/p>\n

We see actions the world over suppressing women\u2019s sexuality<\/strong> and sexual expression.<\/p>\n

Still and all, Jennifer Hough, writing in the Toronto Star<\/a>, says \u201cthe widespread activism\u201d about the trial and sentencing of Pussy Riot<\/strong> \u201csuggests these young Russian dissidents are giving the movement new impetus, perhaps even tweaking feminism<\/strong> for a new generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why does women\u2019s sexuality matter? Why does women\u2019s porn<\/strong> matter? We say: It\u2019s about control<\/strong>. Who controls women\u2019s bodies and sexuality matters.<\/p>\n
