Sex Tips & Tricks: Create Your Own Love Nest

When you think of a love nest, you might be picturing some exotic, red-draped canopy bed…or a basement dungeon outfitted with the latest in S&M gear. In reality, you can make a space from a bedroom or an extra space that’s not being used. You can make it as lush or as spare as you like.

A love nest is a special place you create only for you where you and your sweetie or sweeties can enjoy delicious sex.

If you have the luxury of an extra room in your apartment or home, take advantage of it and make it your personal, sexy hideaway. This could be a den, extra bedroom, finished attic or basement space or even an atrium or other “extra” available space in your home.

If you don’t have the luxury of extra space, use your bedroom or a nook off the living room. No matter what, create the sexy atmosphere you want.

For a love nest to succeed you must feel comfortable with the design and look of the space. If you prefer a modern, contemporary look, go for it! Prefer Victorian intrigue? Study different design styles and pick one or two that suit your taste.

Here’s a good site that distinguishes different period interior design styles:

Remember, though, this room is for you and your lovers. If you find yourself leaning toward an ornate look befitting a fairy princess, remember that your lover may feel a tad overwhelmed by all the flourishes. Tone it down slightly and use your imagination when you’re alone.

Regardless of your personal style, here are some basics all love nests should include:

  • A place to lie down and make love. Even if you love making love standing up, make sure you have a place to stretch out and relax. This could be a bed, a futon, a raft of down pillows or the like.
  • Storage for your sex toys, condoms, latex gloves and lube. Don’t forget to stock it well! A cabinet or bookshelf works well, ditto a hinged ottoman or other closed compartment.
  • A door or other method to close off your love nest from prying eyes.
  • Light. Windows are ideal, and don’t forget the curtains or other window treatments, but some sort of light will help you see what you’re doing while making love.
  • If you have the room, add a couple chairs to sit and relax afterwards. Otherwise you can move to another room for your aprês amour.

Optional but fun:

  • Music – even a radio will work in a small space
  • Sexy art or framed prints on the walls
  • A mini-fridge tucked away in a corner and stocked with your favorite beverages and nibbles
  • Rugs on the floor…just in case you feel like getting down and dirty but not splinters in your knees
  • A TV and DVD player. If you’re like us, porn rules!
