U.S. Supreme Court Rules for Marriage Equality

SCOTUS rules on DOMA Prop 8

This morning we have reason to celebrate.

Two life-changing, landmark decisions were issued by the United States Supreme Court.

  • The Defense of Marriage Act, also called DOMA, was stuck down.
  • Proposition 8, or Prop 8, which would have banned same-sex marriage in California, was dismissed. Same-sex marriage in California is now legal.

President Obama said: “The laws of our land are catching up to the fundamental truth that millions of Americans hold in our hearts.”

“So glad we’re still moving in the right direction, towards tolerance!” wrote a commentator on the Washington Post article posting.

In recognizing same-sex marriage, the Supreme Court has recognized gay rights as a civil rights issue. At last.

Congratulations to the Prop8 plaintiffs, to the lawyers and organizations who worked so hard and persevered on these cases and to the millions of supporters who have fueled this movement.

Same sex marriage in the USA as of May 15 2013

We are heartened that marriage equality is gaining ground, with Minnesota being the 12th state to permit gays and lesbians to legally marry.

Nan is from Minnesota, as you may know, and we visit her mom and sister there on a relatively regular basis. Her mom is still riding high at almost 95 years old!

We salute those states where legal gay marriage exists.

We salute those who are working to ensure equality throughout the U.S.

Yours in good love and sex,

On Gay Marriage: Letter to Fatale Media

Monday, April 15th, 2013

In the midst of all the excitement over the last two weeks, we’ve been following the gay marriage cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Our friend Chuck, who lives in Louisiana, sends us good articles and lots of good karma. This week, he sent this, with a note:

“I found a news story to show that there are many changes that need to take place when it comes to being there for the one you love.”

Here is the Huffington Post story, “Gay Man Arrested.”

“When I read this story, I thought about you ladies….This is the reason why the same-sex marriage issue has been taken to the U.S. Supreme Court. This is the reason why same sex couples around the country are fighting for benefits like heterosexual couples.”

Thank you, Chuck, for your kind words and staying on top of this important issue.

Supreme Court Takes on Gay Marriage

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

The United States Supreme Court today begins to hear arguments about the first of two cases about gay marriage. There are swarms of people who came out to try to get the coveted seats inside the Supreme Court. This may be one of the most important cases the Court has heard in quite some time, certainly when it comes to so-called “social issues.”

We are following the NYT blog “The Lede” and SCOTUSblog for updates and will listen to live coverage once the transcripts are released.

Prop 8 plaintiffs Kris Perry and Sandy Stier

We applaud the #Prop8 plaintiffs, Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, and it is with pride we follow these hearings at the Supreme Court.

Here’s a helpful “Who’s Who in the Prop 8 Case.”

New Poll: Are you married?

Friday, July 1st, 2011

In the June 2011 poll, we asked: How do you like your pubic hair?

Wow! It’s a fourway tie, and “Bushy” is in there. Check out the results.

This month, in light of New York State passage of the gay marriage bill, we wondered: Are you married?

Vote now! The poll is on Fatale’s home page.

Stay tuned. We’ll give you the results next month.

On the verge of the largest state so far to ratify gay marriage, we wish everyone a Happy Gay Pride. This year saw the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, too, a milestone.

Parades, parties, dances…we’ll be there in spirit, especially at the Dyke Dance in New York City Saturday night.

Reminder, too: One last week to take advantage of Fatale’s Gay Pride Special. Ten percent off and free shipping through June.
